Gary Curtis, a lifelong resident, passed away at the age of 60 in Woodland Valley on April 20, 2024. He was born on May 2, 1963, in Margaretville, to his loving parents, the late Virgil and Helen Berryann Curtis Sr. Gary's kind presence and gentle spirit will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Gary was a man of the outdoors, dedicating many years to lawn maintenance, and his earlier years were marked by hard work as a "Tail End" at the local sawmill. As a former member of the M. F. Whitney Hose Co. in Phoenicia, Gary exemplified service and teamwork. His unwavering enthusiasm for the NY Yankees and for NASCAR was well-known among his friends and family. Gary could often be found cheering on his favorite sports teams, and his passion for these pastimes was infectious. He navigated life's challenges with a quiet grace, and in his battle with cancer, he showcased immense courage and dignity.
Gary leaves behind a beloved sister, Debbie Simmons, and is predeceased by his brother, Virgil Curtis Jr. His special friend, Lisa Rotella, along with several cousins, will continue to cherish the memory of the times they spent with Gary.
A graveside service will be held at the Mt. Pleasant Rural Cemetery, Rt. 28, Mt. Tremper on Tuesday at 1pm. We ask that friends come with a special memory or "Gary Story" that can be for the service. You may share a special memory, photo, or condolence with the family on Gary's Tribute Wall at www.gormleyfuneralhome.com
