Ilene Mark

     Ilene Mark passed away on December 10, 2023 at Ten Broeck Commons Nursing and Rehabilitation Center with the loving care of the staff, relatives, and friends. She suffered from Non-Hogdkins lymphoma since 2015. 
     Ilene Mark was born Ilene Lipman, in New York City on January 12, 1948, daughter of the late Donald and Jeanne Lipman. She spent her childhood growing up in Roslyn NY with her sister Jill. 
     In 1965 she attended Oakland University in Michigan with art as her major. She further went on to earn a teaching certificate there which led her to California where she taught in the Chinatown District at a private school. Ilene moved to Woodstock in the mid 1970’s. She met her husband, sound engineer Tom Mark and built a state of the art recording studio, The Make Believe Ballroom, on Broadhead Road, West Shokan, NY. She also worked at the Ulster County Mental Health Association for a while before changing careers and returning to the music business and an assistant to singer Michael Franks and composer Carla Bley. 
     In later years she worked at Barry Price Architecture Inc., as an architectural assistant. She derived great pleasure from her gardening, along with her painting and sketching. 
     She is survived by her sister Jill Knell, dear friend and caregiver George Quinn, and many cousins and friends. A memorial service to celebrate the life Ilene will be held in the Spring 2024.
